안녕하세요 보스턴 임박사입니다.

스웨덴의 유명 아카펠라 그룹 The Real Group (TRG)는 1984년 당시 스웨덴 왕립음악학교에 재학 중이던 학생 중 남자 3명, 여자 2명으로 구성된 혼성 아카펠라 그룹입니다. 본래 스웨덴 스톡홀름에 있는 왕립음악학교 (The Royal Academy of Music) 를 졸업하려면 졸업연주회를 해야 하는데 그것을 위해 남자 3명이 팀을 만들었는데 교수님의 소개로 여자 2명이 조인해서 노래를 했다고 해요. 그런데 너무나 화음이 좋아서 결국 이렇게 프로 아카펠라 그룹이 탄생하게 됩니다.

아래 사진은 초창기 활동하던 당시의 사진입니다. 정말 풋풋하죠?

왼쪽부터 Katarina Henryson (Alto), Margareta Bengtson (Soprano), Anders Jalkeus (Bass), Anders Edenroth (Tenor)그리고 Peder Karlsson (Baritone)입니다. 이 그룹멤버 중 커플도 있는데요. Margareta와 Anders Jalkeus입니다. 하지만 나중에 두 사람은 이혼을 하게 됩니다.

특히 Anders Jalkeus는 베이스이면서 비트박스를 혼자 겸하고 있기 때문에 나머지 멤버가 자유롭게 소리를 얹을 수 있다는 것이 아주 큰 장점이었습니다.

이 그룹은 멤버를 보강해서 현재까지 활동을 계속하고 있는데요. 오리지널 멤버들 중에서는 현재 두명이 활동을 하고 있습니다. The Real Group이 정말 주옥같은 노래를 많이 불렀지만 I Sing You Sing은 정말 사랑을 많이 받는 노래입니다.

5명의 화음과 합창을 비교해 보시면 이 5명이 얼마나 잘 하는 그룹인지 아실 수 있을거에요.

아래의 것은 2010년에 미국 미네소타에 있는 Northern Lights Chorale이 부른 I Sing You Sing입니다.

무대가 일단 잘 울리는 무대인 것 같아요. 거의 100명 정도 되는 합창단이 부르는 것과 5명의 The Real Group의 아카펠라의 차이가 느껴지시나요?

그리고 아래의 것은 대만국립대학교 합창단이 2011년에 부른 것인데요. 안무와 함께 하는 I Sing You Sing의 화음이 너무 좋습니다.

The Real Group은 오래전부터 The Real Group Academy라는 아카펠라 스쿨을 운영하면서 노래를 가르치는 일을 하고 있습니다.

이렇게 좋은 프로 아카펠라 그룹이 있다는 것은 참 감사한 일인 것 같아요. 70-80년대에 스웨덴에 유명했던 아바 (ABBA)라는 혼성그룹이 있습니다. 레알그룹이 아바를 존경하는 뜻으로 아바의 멤버인 Frida와 함께 아바의 노래 “Dancing Queen”을 부른 적이 있습니다.

이런 전통을 선보이는 것은 참 좋은 것 같아요.

I Sing You Sing은 한국의 아마추어 아카펠라팀도 즐겨부르는 것으로 알고 있는데 아직 좋은 동영상은 찾을 수가 없네요.
